From the 10th to the 11th of April, YATA Trondheim attended the 21st annual Nordic Security Conference 2026. The conference was held in Oslo, organised by YATA Norway and gathered participants from 27 different YATA nations.
This year’s theme, «Preparing for Insecurity in a More Fragmented World», set the stage for insightful discussions on today’s security landscape.
We in YATA Trondheim started early Friday morning and were fortunate enough to visit the French Residence in Oslo, where we were welcomed with a highly prepared and informative program, with great opportunities for questions and discussions afterwards.
later, we visited the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where we had the pleasure of meeting two trainee diplomats, Astrid and Henrik. They gave an insightful presentation on the Ministry’s trainee program, followed by an engaging and open conversation.
NorSec kicked off on Friday evening with an event at Oslo Militære Samfunn, featuring a fireside chat with Poland’s head of The Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as opportunities to meet fellow participants.
On Saturday, the conference focused on discussions on power dynamics in a fragmented world, changes in U.S. foreign policy, frameworks for security cooperation and lessons learned from the war in Ukraine. The day ended with a formal gala dinner in historic settings at Akershus Fortress.
On Sunday, NorSec continued with discussions on Russia’s understanding of the changing international order, hybrid threats, disinformation, the future of diplomacy and the Arctic’s role in geopolitics and security policy.
The conference brought together high-level panelists, researchers, experienced diplomats, politicians, military personnel and policy professionals, contributing to a rich and dynamic exchange of perspectives.
We are grateful for the opportunity to take part in such an engaging conference, and for the chance to connect with aspiring professional from across the world!
